Elections
Elections belong to the people. It's their decision.
If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds,
then they will just have to sit on their blisters.
~Abraham Lincoln
Perhaps it's because people are overwhelmed, or perhaps because we live in a 140-character-world that a majority of people won't invest the time to think through the candidates, opting rather for a quick-read of a smile or joke. Paul Collier, author of The Bottom Billion: Why the Poorest Countries Are Failing and What Can Be Done about It, contends, "Elections determine who is in power, but they do not determine how power is used." I opt for another analysis (by Ian Anderson): "So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels, to be thick as a brick." -vkm
